Joey Auch: story

The Story

Forget the one-hit wonders. Great music comes from artists who create the sincere, inspiring songs that transcend beyond the ears and into the heart. These are the songs we hold dearly in our minds as they represent a memory, a feeling as to who we were at a certain point in time. In the case of Joey Auch, he is one such talented singer/songwriter whose music represents just that – beauty, sincerity, and soul.

Winner of the 2006 Great American Songwriting Contest, New York City recording artist Joey Auch has been showering audiences with his melodic sounds and sexy, soulful vocals while fusing compelling lyrics with pop appeal. There’s no doubt about it, Joey Auch brings the honest truth to his music with a groove everyone can feel.

Born in Spencerport, NY, Auch spent his most of his childhood engulfed by music, inspired by every pop genre from Motown rhythm and blues to classic rock. At the age of 9, he began singing in the local youth choir, and at 11, was teaching himself to play the piano in his family’s living room. By the time Auch reached 13, he had already penned his first song. “When I began as most kids do, I had stars in my eyes and wanted to be a part of the next U2, or The Police,” says Auch. “But now I think it’s most important to just be honest and write music with integrity no matter what. To me, that's where the most universally appealing music comes from.”

Indeed, Joey Auch has done just that on both of his debut efforts. His solo EP “Leaving Carolina,” released in 2006, features the award winning song of the same title, as does his full length LP “For Beginners,” a collaborative effort with co-producer/arranger Stacey Leazer, exudes hook-friendly melodies with a touch of soulful jazz. Think Jamie Cullum on our side of the pond, or Ray Lamontagne with a pop edge.

Joey explains: “I want to push myself to be the most creative and honest I can be, and in the process, connect with people on a real level through these songs.” Clearly, he is living up to the task.
